A Witness

James

James 5:2-3 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. (3) Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

There will be a day when we will all stand before God to be judged. For those who are saved, their name will be read from the book of life and that will end the judgment. For those who are not saved, their works will be revealed. They will give an account for every idol word and for every evil deed. Their good works will be revealed as well. But, we must remember that the best we have to offer God, our very best deeds, are nothing more that filthy rags (Isa 64:6).

I can imagine unsaved rich man standing before God and pointing to his wealth only to watch it be consumed by rust, fire and corruption. Left with nothing, that man will then be condemned to hell, to burn forever. Through all eternity, he will see his wealth and be reminded that he rejected God.
